As a Counsellor, Therapist or Mental Health Professional working with the GSRD community, you’re likely to encounter a wide range of spiritual and religious beliefs and practices within your client group. Individuals may carry a history of negative experiences of marginalisation by their religious or spiritual communities of origin. Alternatively they may present to therapy with affirmative spiritual experiences that have supported their journey as GSRD people.

Feeling well equipped to understand the scope of what you may encounter and what this means for your clients will help you deliver the clarity and sensitivity they require from therapy.

If you need to explore the religious and spiritual diversity that GSRD clients bring to the therapy room, Pink Therapy’s Faith, Religion and Spirituality online-learning CPD module offers you the opportunity to consider the issues from every angle so that you can develop a confident, balanced clinical approach.

You will be encouraged to develop awareness of the impact of the religious and spiritual oppression on your clients and you’ll be encouraged to consider how faith can be reconciled and integrated in their lives.

This module also outlines the pitfalls for clients around religious and spiritual exploration and experimentation. You will begin to understand the risks for clients who avoid developing their own psychological awareness because it feels easier to hide behind spiritual beliefs. You’ll consider your therapeutic approach to these issues so that you can support your clients to work through the challenges they face.
