Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual Parenting

£120.00£160.00

If you’re a Counsellor, Therapist or Mental Health Professional who works with GSRD clients, developing the depth of knowledge to practice affirmatively with parenting issues is an essential aspect of your skill set. Despite the rise in publicly acknowledged same-sex households over the last 50 years, lesbian, gay and bisexual parents remain challenged by a history of social stigmatisation and heteronormative assumptions about their motivations, family configurations and the development and well-being of their children.

Pink Therapy’s Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual Parenting online-learning CPD module draws on the latest research and developments in thinking about LGB parenting to dispel the myths and assumptions that can contribute to the rigid clinical approaches that leave clients inadequately supported. You’ll be encouraged to reflect on your own beliefs and attitudes and consider how you can adopt a flexible model of working that offers same sex parents and their children a safe, welcoming therapeutic space that meets their diverse needs.

Description

This 15 hour CPD module offers you the opportunity to:

  • develop your understanding and implications of what motivates LGB people to become parents, the different routes to parenthood they may consider
  • identify the key messages from the body of research relating to same sex parenting and consider how these defy heteronormative assumptions about children’s development, well-being and family relationships
  • explore the specific challenges faced by LGB parents and their children and consider the range of clinical issues they may bring to therapy
  • use reflexivity to examine the impact of your own attitudes and beliefs on your therapeutic approach
  • consider best practice points to inform your delivery of inclusive, affirmative therapy that is flexible enough to meet the needs of clients with diverse models of family configuration

Candidates who submit and pass a short set of tutor-marked questions will achieve a Certificate of Study worth 15 hours of CPD credit from Pink Therapy.
